A bird a day keeps the chaos away
Yellow-throated Warbler
YETWAR
Setophaga dominica
ORDER: Passeriformes
FAMILY: Parulidae
Central Indiana, May Migration Season
A slender, long-billed warbler with distinctive pattern. Look for yellow throat, black mask, and black streaks on sides. All plumages are very similar; females and immatures often show a light buffy wash on the sides. Forages like a nuthatch, often creeping along branches and hanging upside-down. Fairly common breeder in mature forests with large sycamores or pines. Winters from the southeastern U.S. to Central America and the Caribbean, often in palm trees. Listen for sweet descending song with sharper notes at the end.

The daily Birdstack will always be free. But let’s be real, we all get more things done when we have caffeine. If you love this daily email and would like to support us in a small way, a flat white with oat milk goes a long way toward warming this editor’s heart. We see your pledges and they always bring joy, but monetization was never an intended goal - it was always to share our stockpile of photography with you. Otherwise, hours and hours of field work and grubbing around to get the perfect shot would be trapped in our hard drives. That seems a waste, eh?
