Hey, there, Birdstack fans and subscribers! Many apologies for the gap in posts. I normally create several days of posts and then schedule them to drop. Life happened and I didn’t do my normal scheduling. I totally forgot. I also forgot to nag our trusty photographer to drop my next batch of photos, so I’m scheduling the images I have prepared which are pretty varied. I’m interested in knowing what sort of birds you’d like to see next. Shorebirds? Waterfowl? Backyard favorites? Drop a comment and let me know! The last few days we’ve all needed a chaos-buster and I really am sorry for the interruption of posts.

Red-bellied Woodpecker
REBWOO
Melanerpes carolinus
ORDER: Piciformes
FAMILY: Picidae
Madison County, Indiana, January 2021
Medium-sized woodpecker that is not well named; rarely is the slight red wash on the belly visible! Instead, note the black-and-white barring on the back and wings, plain buffy breast and face, and red nape. On adult males, look for the red extending onto the crown. In flight, look for the white rump. Found in forested and suburban areas, typically preferring deciduous trees. Slowly expanding its range northward. Visits feeders, especially for suet. Nests in cavities.

No apologies needed at all..I hope you are well...( the voice?...relaxation techniques, meditation, perhaps acupuncture or just visualization to unblock )
Like the orange markings above the woodpeckers wing.
Photo suggestions? .bluebirds...any type of blue birds.
Years ago we were hiking in Colorado...up a mile on a hill to a small waterfall...the path was beside a ravine...At the top of the hill I looked way down into the ravine and saw two bluebirds flying amidst the sprice evergreens....the prettiest color of turquoise bright blue...absolutely beautiful to see that color darting amidst the trees.
Didn.t even have a camera..
But i.ll always hold that image in my minds
eye and memory.
Beautiful bird! I've never seen a real one. They don't live around here. You're blessed!
