Florida Scrub-Jay - Summertime on the Shoreline
A bird a day keeps the chaos away
Florida Scrub-Jay
FLSJAY
Aphelocoma coerulescens
ORDER: Passeriformes
FAMILY: Corvidae
Southwest Florida Coast, summer birds edition
Bold, blue-and-gray jay of oak scrub in central Florida. Juveniles have browner head and back than adults. Lacks crest and patterning on the wings and tail seen on Blue Jay. Very social, staying in close family groups to raise young. Readily hops on the ground while searching for food. Unique scrubby habitat must burn periodically in order to remain appropriate for Florida Scrub-Jays. Classified as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.

We see your pledges and they always bring joy, but monetization was never an intended goal - it was always to share our stockpile of photography with you. Otherwise, hours and hours of field work and grubbing around to get the perfect shot would be trapped in our hard drives. That seems a waste, eh?
